Merkandoo

Project, time and shift management on a single platform

The team's work center: everything that happens on a project, just a keyboard shortcut away.

Merkandoo is Mecexis 's own product for organizing team work: projects and tasks, time tracking, and shift management all coexist in a single tool that responds instantly and can be used without taking your hands off the keyboard. It was created to solve our own daily operations, and that remains its true test of quality: a tool that isn't used doesn't manage anything, and this one is used every day.

We were the client

Does this situation sound familiar to you?

Multiple projects progressing simultaneously, hours to be charged to each client, a workday that must be legally recorded, and a team split between the office and remote work. All of that has to happen somewhere, and it usually happens in three or four places: a task manager, a time tracking tool, a clock-in app, and a spreadsheet acting as the glue.

At Mecexis, we were in the same boat. For years, we tested every tool on the market, from corporate management systems to time and attendance apps, and none of them were a good fit: some imposed processes designed for other companies, others piled up features no one used, and all of them forced us to spread operations across systems that didn't communicate with each other. As a company that builds custom software for others, the conclusion was almost inevitable, and in 2026, we applied our own solution.

This is how Merkandoo was born, its name derived from "meerkat can do": meerkats work in colonies, coordinating naturally, with one always on guard while the others work. It's hard to find a better metaphor for a team with its projects, its schedules, and its shifts.

Three tools for one job

Project manager, time tracking and day registration lived separately

The problem wasn't a lack of tools, but their fragmentation. Every context switch took minutes, each piece of data was entered more than once, and information was scattered across disconnected systems. A management tool is opened dozens of times a day, and every second of loading time or every extra click is multiplied across the entire team throughout the year. The conclusion of those years of testing can be summed up in one sentence: management software that gets in the way ends up unused, and software that isn't used doesn't manage anything.

We wanted a platform that united the three fronts, responded instantly, was operated from the keyboard, and didn't require thinking about it.

The solution

One place for teamwork

With Merkandoo you don't need a task manager, a time tracking tool and a time clock app: it's all three, under an expressive and clear interface, with access by user, project and client, and a declared obsession: that nothing makes you wait.

1

Projects and tasks so that nothing is missed.

Each project organizes its task lists with assignments, deadlines always visible, notes, comments, and a complete change history. The activity log records what happened and who did it, and the archive keeps projects, lists, and tasks searchable forever. How was that task from March resolved? It's there, along with the entire conversation.

2

Times that become business

Each record links project, day, duration, and person, with optional notes and tasks. Listings can be filtered by user, project, client, or period, with views by day, person, or location. How many hours has this client worked this month? A filter and you're done, with the client view ready for invoicing and export to CSV or Excel for accounting.

3

Shifts that comply with the rule without thinking about it.

Each shift has a type (work, rest, or training), location (a physical center or remote), and a timer to track it. Shifts are edited, recorded, and undergo a review process to ensure compliance with time tracking regulations. The legal obligation ceases to be a separate app and becomes a natural part of the daily routine, something that typical project managers simply don't consider.

4

Multiple centers, one photo

Organizations with multiple locations operate normally: shifts are associated with each center, and timesheets offer views by center as well as by day or individual. Activity can be viewed from any perspective, whether it's the company as a whole, a specific location, or an individual.

5

Your life, just a keystroke away

Two distinct elements comprise the personal interface. The Watcher is your daily task window, always accessible, standing guard like the meerkat it's named after. The Burrow is your command palette: like a colony's network of tunnels, it instantly takes you to any favorite page, action, or project without you having to touch the mouse. With keyboard shortcuts and global search for tasks, projects, and people, your work is always just a keystroke away.

6

An interface that never makes you wait.

The application is built with Django, HTML, and Alpine.js: the browser loads lightweight HTML instead of a heavyweight framework, changes made by other users appear in real time, editing is inline (names, times, and notes are changed on-site, without modals), and tasks are rearranged with drag and drop. The design is expressive and clear, with a custom CSS system so lightweight that the visual personality doesn't compromise performance, and it includes a dark mode. Installable as a Progressive Web App (PWA), everything works equally well on mobile as on desktop, from opening a shift upon arrival to managing an entire project.

7

Serious product architecture and security

Each organization has its own independent instance running PostgreSQL and Docker, with two-factor authentication, automated backups, and a continuous development lifecycle with continuous testing and deployment. The same engineering discipline that Mecexis applies to its clients' projects is applied to its own product.

All these questions have the same answer: yes

  • Can I see my tasks for the day without leaving what I'm doing?
  • Can I find out how many hours a client has been using this month?
  • Can I export the times to Excel for invoicing?
  • Can I clock in from my mobile phone when I arrive at the office or when I start remotely?
  • Can I distinguish between work, rest, and training within the workday?
  • Can I see the times per center when there are multiple locations?
  • Can I find out who changed what and when?
  • Can I access a project that was archived years ago?
  • Can I move around the entire tool without touching the mouse?
  • Can I give each person access only to their own projects and clients?

Designed for everyday use

The own product as a method

Merkandoo is built in the most demanding way possible: by using it. Every feature stems from a real need of the team, is tested in daily work, and is refined or discarded based on what usage demonstrates. There's no product committee or theoretical wish list; there's a team that manages its actual projects with the tool and immediately notices any friction.

And while the product is new, the engineering behind it is not: it boasts over a decade of experience from Mecexis building custom software for others. You can't create reliable software without a team that has years of experience doing it.

Managing without thinking about the manager

The entire operation in one place

The results are evident in daily operations: all project management, time tracking, and daily schedules happen in a single place, without context switching or duplicate data. Daily tasks are stored in El Vigía, work hours are recorded as they occur, each client's hours are ready for billing, and any query about past events is answered with a search or a shortcut. The tool has become a permanent fixture, which was precisely the goal.

A product with a track record

From team manager to full operations center

Merkandoo was born within Mecexis but its architecture is not tied to us: each organization operates on its own independent instance, with its users, projects and clients, which leaves it ready to serve other teams and to integrate into solutions that Mecexis builds to measure.

The roadmap points in that same direction: a file manager with Markdown support so that documentation lives alongside the work, a Kanban view to complement the lists, integrated chat, and collaboration spaces with clients and partners that will extend the platform beyond the team. Looking ahead, the billing, quoting, and services layer will complete the cycle already hinted at by the client-based time tracking view: from recorded work to invoice without leaving the tool. Everything will be integrated as it always has been, guided by actual usage and with a clear criterion: if it doesn't make the work faster or clearer, it won't be integrated.
