Two different paths, the same destination
Decades of private medicine that needed a technological foundation to match their level
SART is an anesthesiology and resuscitation group with decades of experience in private healthcare. Its daily operations coordinate procedures, operating rooms, and medical teams in a system where every action generates clinical documentation, insurance authorizations, and billing. It was a pioneer in digitalization: in the late 1980s, it developed its own management system, a forward-thinking decision that sustained its operations for over three decades.
Institut Roura , a medical center with a long history of care, faced the same operational challenges from the other end: a management based on manual processes that depended on the daily efforts of its administrative team.
Between the two organizations, the platform serves an operation that employs between 70 and 80 professionals, including doctors, nurses, and administrative staff. These two opposing technological realities shared the same underlying problem and were looking for a partner capable of solving it without interrupting patient care.

When yesterday's innovation becomes today's constraint

SART's proprietary system, written in MUMPS in the late 80s, had been robust for decades, but had become an operational risk: outdated technology with no generational replacement, no possibility of integration, and unsuitable for current requirements of security and traceability of medical data. At Institut Roura, planning and administration relied directly on manual processes.
Adding to this was the sector's common bottleneck: insurance authorizations arrive as PDFs in over 30 different formats, one per company, and each document has to be reviewed manually to extract patients, identifiers, and procedures and link them to the corresponding services. Billing adds the final layer of complexity, because mutual insurance companies pay for transfers that group hundreds of services, and reconciling what was collected against what was billed is a manual, slow, and error-prone task.

Replacing a system with over thirty years of data and established work practices doesn't allow for a sudden change. The rollout was planned in phases, validating each module in production with real users and maintaining coexistence with the previous processes until each area was ready for the transition. Constant communication with the medical and administrative teams allowed the platform to be tailored to the specifics of their daily operations, precisely where a generic system would have failed.
